BE STILL OXYMEL DIY

Lately I’ve been struggling a bit with calming my mind and turning off the inner chatter. I’ve been pretty introspective for a long while so maybe that has a lot to do with it. I’m working on maintaining focus and how to be still. I made this oxymel to help me out.

If you’re unsure what an oxymel is, it’s a vinegar and honey herbal extraction. I almost always use apple cider vinegar and raw honey when I’m making oxymels. They’ve been used for centuries to make herbal consumption tastier and a bit more palatable.

For this oxymel, I’m using chamomile and skullcap. Chamomile is a very gentle herb that I love to use when the weight of the world feels like it’s on my shoulders. And skullcap is great for shutting off the inner chatter whenever I’m struggling to focus.

I use equal parts of the herbs and fill a mason jar about 1/4 of the way. Then I fill the rest with equal parts raw honey and apple cider vinegar. I’m going to let this infuse for at least two weeks while I give it a good shake each day until it’s ready to be strained.

If you’re following along be sure to use a plastic lid or place a a piece of parchment over top before using a metal lid. We don’t want the metal to leach into the mixture so these precautions will avoid that.

BE STILL OXYMEL DIY

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup of chamomile
  • 1/2 cup of skullcap
  • 2 cups of raw honey
  • 2 cups of apple cider vinegar

Directions

  1. Add enough chamomile and skullcap to a sanitized jar to fill it at 1/4 of the way full.
  2. Use equal parts raw honey and apple cider vinegar to top off the jar the rest of the way.
  3. Be sure to use a piece of parchment paper to cover the jar before placing on a metal lid. Or use a plastic lid instead.
  4. Infuse for at least 2 weeks. Give a good shake each day until it’s ready to be strained.
  5. I’ll check back for the next steps once it’s ready.
