TOILET FIZZIES DIY

These last few months I’ve been taking healthy cleaning a lot more seriously. By healthy cleaning I mean non-toxic products with a preference for free and clear. Most commercial products contain chemicals that are toxic for humans and animals. I’m not down for that. I discovered these toilet fizzies that I want to share with you, in case you’ve also been looking for clean cleaning products. Clean cleaning sounds weird, pardon the redundancy.

I scented this batch with ginger and orange essential oils. They paired perfectly together with a clean, fresh scent. I also love that the scent is pretty subtle. Compared to commercial toilet bowl cleaners, these toilet fizzies give a subtle scent that isn’t overwhelming. Which for me, means no headache.

MAKING PERFECT FIZZIES

They key to get the perfect fizzies is by adding the perfect amount of water. These are very similar to bath bombs, so if you’re experienced in making those then these will be a piece of cake. If you’ve never worked with citric acid and baking soda before, not to worry. It’s not as intimidating as it seems.

I start with a few drops of water and mix together to see if my mixtures holds together or not. I ended up using about 1/2 teaspoon to get my mixture just right, but different environments might be a bit different.

To mix the ingredients together I used my hands. I recommend this so you can feel the texture and really get in there and feel if there’s enough water or not. It’s important to mention that if you’re using bare hands, it might feel like it’s burning your skin. I don’t mind the burn so for me it was bearable. I recommend to wear gloves to avoid the burning feeling on the skin.

Once I got the fizzies to the perfect texture, I filled silicone molds to make cute rose shaped fizzies. I had some extra left over so I used the rest to fill metal bath bomb molds. I let them dry overnight before removing them from their molds.

Both molds worked well, although the silicone molds were much easier to remove without damaging the fizzies. I store them in an airtight container and throw one in the toilet right before I clean the bowl with a toilet brush.

Toxic chemical cleaning agents be gone!
