Elderberry has been used for centuries in folk medicine. And it has definitely made a comeback in the last few years. Products like elderberry syrup are more popular now than ever. And I’m all about it.

What’s so Good about Elderberry?
Touted for its antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, elderberry is commonly used for cold and flu symptoms. It’s also used as an immune system booster, which is primarily the reason I love it so much. I like to infuse raw honey with the elderberries and sneak in a spoonful throughout the day.

Plus, it’s very simple to make and only takes about two weeks to infuse.
Raw Honey Benefits
Honey is nothing short of a miracle. It’s often used to treat sore throats, coughs and even burns. It’s rich in anti-inflammatory, antioxodant and antibacterial properties. Not to mention, it’s sweet flavor can make anything taste good. It’s perfect when paired with elderberries.

Start out with a Mason jar and about a cup of dried elderberry( I get mine here). I also used a Ceylon cinnamon stick, which I also got from here, and raw local honey. I made sure to use enough honey to fully submerge the berries and cinnamon.

Store in a warm spot, preferably near a window. Shake and turn upside down each day until fully infused. I like to infuse mine for about two weeks. If my house is a little colder than usual, then I might let it go for three weeks instead.
Once it’s ready, strain out the honey and discard the solids. Store the honey in an air-tight container and keep in a dark cabinet.
I generally do about a spoonful every morning, and another one at night if I’m starting to feel like I have cold or flu symptoms. I also like to drizzle over fruit or add to a smoothie. It’s so good, it can really be added to anything you’d normally add honey to.
ELDERBERRY HONEY RECIPE
Ingredients
- 1 cup of dried elderberry
- 1 cinnamon stick (I used Ceylon cinnamon)
- Raw local honey
Directions
- Combine all ingredients into a Mason jar. Be sure to fully submerge the elderberries and cinnamon stick in the honey.
- Place the jar in front of a warm window for 2 weeks. Shake and turn the jar over each day while infusing.
- Once the ingredients have fully infused, strain the herbs and store the honey in an air-tight container.
- Enjoy!
