Winter is on its way. For me, that means dry skin. Eventually dry skin leads to breakouts and I spend all fall and winter balancing the two and it becomes a vicious cycle. I have very sensitive skin and most commercial products cause some kind of reaction, so I make my own. This calendula oil is a big part of my cold weather wellness. I use it as the foundation of lots of things such as salves, lotions, deodorant, etc. I’ll share with you how I make it.

The goal is to infuse grapeseed oil with calendula petals. Really any herb can be infused into the oil but for me, I find that calendula compliments my skin the best. It’s gentle enough for my very picky skin and it’s tough enough to help clear up acne and dry skin. Here are some other herbs that can be used instead of calendula:
- Rose petals
- Chamomile
- Lavender
- Rosemary
- Rosehips
I get my calendula from Mountain Rose Herbs, you can find them here

Grapeseed oil is awesome for sensitive skin. I love how light and soft and silky it is. But there are other oils that can be used instead, such as:
- Olive oil
- Sunflower oil
- Sweet almond oil
- Coconut oil
- Jojoba oil
- Avocado oil
- Rosehip oil
Each have their own properties and can be used for different reasons. But generally anything that goes on my face or neck has to be light, so grapeseed is my jam.
I try to always keep this oil on hand. Plus, making it myself ensures that there’s no unnecessary garbage additives found in most commercial products. More importantly, it’s much much cheaper to make it at home.
