BREATHE WELL MOCKTAIL

No matter how well I prepare for cold and flu season, I still somehow ended up with a stuffy nose. I haven’t got a fever or a scratchy throat, so I call that a win. I’m very grateful to only have a stuff nose but it still would be nice to breathe.

As soon as I felt a tinge on congestion in my nose I went to my herbs shelves and grabbed peppermint and ginger root. Thyme would have been my first choice if I had it on hand, but I was fresh out. Then I steeped the peppermint and ginger into a tea and I swear my nose was instantaneously clear. I drank as much of it as I could for the rest of the morning.

Peppermint and ginger tea

I was feeling 100% symptom free but I decided to keep up with the tea just in case. But instead of hot tea, I switched it up a little and chilled the hot tea for a mocktail instead.

Lets talk citrus for a minute. First off, citrus occurs during the winter months and I think that’s pure magic. When we need them the most, there they are. Ripe and ready. Citrus is packed with vitamin C, which is great for our immune systems. And I want to keep my immune system as supported as possible while it fights off whatever this is. I zested one whole orange peel and mixed the zest with granulated sugar. Then I used it to rim my glass. I also tossed a couple orange pieces to the bottom and muddled them up. The more the merrier, right?

A few weeks back I shared how to make elderberry honey. I figured it added an extra layer of immune support to my breathe well mocktail. It also adds a delicious flavor and pairs perfectly with the tea. Yum! So good! And it feels so liberating to be able to breathe again!
