FALL APPLE DUMPLINGS

This cozy recipe is a take on an old-fashioned apple dumpling. The warmness and coziness they bring make them perfect for fall, so I call them fall apple dumplings. If you’ve been around here for a while, you’ll start to see that I have a slight apple obsession. Shamelessly, here’s another apple recipe 🙂

I started out by rolling out pie crust and cutting them into 4 equal squares. I’m making 4 dumplings, so 4 squares for each of them. Then I peeled Granny Smith apples and sliced them in half down the core. This allowed me to remove the seeds and stem and all the unpleasant inedible parts of the apple. Then I stuffed it with a pat of unsalted butter, put the two apples pieces back together. Repeat this step for each apple (4 times.) Place the apples in the center of each pie crust square.

Next I combined brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg then poured a generous heaping spoonful over the top of the sliced apples. Next comes the fun part! Lift each corner of dough and meet them all together in the middle, pinching them together to keep them enclosed. I also twisted each seem to reinforce them as well.

Bake for 50-60 minutes then remove the dumplings from the oven and allow them to cool for about 10 minutes or so. I drizzled caramel sauce overtop to sweeten up the tartness of the Granny Smith apples. I love these dumplings because they aren’t overly sweet. Don’t get me wrong, I adore sweet apples but it is definitely possible to overdo it. These are perfect.
