When I first started this blog I made an affogato and although it was just a few years ago, at the time it felt like such an exotic thing to make. I barely knew what it was when I made the recipe. I was eager to try to but honestly, I would have never known it existed without the internet. You can read that post here. Well I made another one today but this time I mixed it up a bit. I made a brownie coffee affogato. It was amazing.

To begin, I got one of those pre-made brownie boxes at the grocery store and made my brownies the simple way. Yeah, maybe I’m sacrificing a bit on the flavor but it’s fool-proof and that is what I was looking for today. I’m all about simplicity at the moment.

While I waited for the brownies to cool, I brewed a cup of coffee. Then I cut out a circular piece of brownie and put it in the bottom of a cup. I scooped a few scoops of vanilla bean ice cream on top then drizzled the hot coffee over top. It was absolutely perfect.

Typically an affogato uses espresso, but I wanted to use freshly brewed coffee instead and it was incredible. In my opinion both work really well for affogatos, so use whichever you have on hand or whichever you prefer. Either way, the brownie makes it feel extra special. I, for one, would certainly never refuse a brownie.
