I absolutely love the slower nature of winter. Most people complain about the weather but as a homebody who relishes in being in a warm cozy home, it’s hard to complain about that. Even when the New England weather feels especially brutal, I still have coziness and I love that. But, if I were to dig deep to find a reason to complain about the winter, it would be that it’s the peak of cold and flu season. There is that. But, I like to think there are solutions to every problem. Like, I try to add more things in my life that contain antioxidants and boost my immune system. It hasn’t failed me yet. Elderberry syrup is one of my favorites and I’ll share my recipe with you here.

Elderberry has been known to ease cold and flu symptoms so I try to add it to my daily routine in the winter months. My favorite is definitely elderberry syrup. I love how trendy it has become and I can usually find a couple different brands in the grocery stores now. Personally, I like to make my own so I can control the ingredients and their quality. I made my syrup with the baseline ingredients but this recipe can totally be customized. Below is a list of other ingredients you can add to your own syrup:
- Echinacea
- Maple syrup
- Sugar
- Cloves
- Apple cider vinegar
- Peppercorn
- Lemon
*Please note that this recipe is not intended for children. (No honey for the babies).
I hope you feel inspired to make your own. Make some pancakes and pour some elderberry syrup on top. See, winter is great!
