GOLDEN MILK

Golden milk is the queen of anti-inflammation. It’s the coziest of the cozies, warm and comforting with a slight earthy taste. It’s delicious and an easy way to soak up all of its wonderful properties.

The recipe I’m sharing today is a base recipe. It’s the foundation of the drink but it’s meant to be customized. Other ingredients should be added to make the golden milk custom for the needs of the day. Here are a few other ingredients that would go well with my base recipe:

  • Black pepper
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Star Anise
  • Vanilla
  • Nutmeg
  • Coriander
  • Nettles

I like to use ground herbs with this recipe so I can froth them right in and create lots volume and density. If you don’t have any of these herbs ground up, you can use whole pieces but be sure to strain the milk before serving.

WHAT’S SO GOOD ABOUT GOLDEN MILK?

Turmeric! It’s a superfood that was popularized because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s the golden part of the milk.

It is a warming drink and I have to admit that at first it took some getting used to. The heat felt intense and uncomfortable. But it was only temporary and I felt better once it kicked in. If you’ve never tried one before, it’s similar to a hot chocolate but with Thanksgiving pie flavors instead. Delicious.

After I warmed up the milk and herbs with a double boiler, I added honey then poured the milk into a teacup and frothed it up until it’s nice and foamy. I usually drink one about 2 hours before bed. But they’re also great as a morning coffee replacement.
