HERBAL COMPOUND BUTTER

Have you ever had compound butter? If you’ve never heard of it before, compound butter is butter mixed with ingredients to add a sweet or savory flavor. It’s a perfect way to add flavor to baking recipes, veggies, or to use as spread for freshly baked bread.

I used ingredients that are known to have anti-inflammatory properties, but really there’s a multitude of herbs and other ingredients that can be used, such as:

  • Lavender buds
  • Thyme
  • Basil
  • Cilantro
  • Chives
  • Cinnamon
  • Honey
  • Lemon zest
  • Sun-dried basil
  • Dill

If you’re looking for appetizer ideas for the holidays, herbal compound butter is a super easy thing you can make ahead of time. It’s great for crackers, bread, pasta salad, etc.

Start out by chopping up all of the ingredients or throw in the food processed to get everything as fine as possible. Then add to a mixing bowl and blend in softened unsalted butter. Mix until all ingredients are incorporated.

Lay out a fresh piece of parchment paper and drop the butter mixture in the center. Cover the mixture with an edge of the parchment paper and gently press down, rolling the mixture into a small log shape.

Refrigerate until ready to serve.
