This easy seasoned salt recipe is packed with flavor from the high-grade green tea that makes up matcha. It completely reforms basic table salt with its unique flavor. It’s simple and it takes only two ingredients and just a few seconds to whip up. Matcha salt might just be your new favorite salt.

It packs a lot of punch and only a few sprinkles are needed. Creating your own seasoned salt is a fun way to get creative in the kitchen. I love the inspiration it gives me. It makes me want to try new ways to experiment with it. Some of my favorite foods to use matcha salt with are:
- Popcorn
- Fish
- Hard boiled eggs
- Salad
- Tofu
- Rice
- Cookies
- Cocktails
- Tempura

Using a good flake salt is vital for the recipe. I suppose any salt can be used but flake salt specifically creates texture and nuance. I used Mountain Rose Herbs’ Cyprus Flake Salt. One of my favorite things about it is that it has a unique pyramid shape. And its flavor is really mild so that matcha can really stand out.
When selecting matcha, be sure to choose culinary grade. It offers the best flavor and packs the most punch. I find that equal parts salt and matcha make the best blend. Everyone has different taste profiles so I suggest to start small when blending your own salt. Start with just a bit of matcha and give it a taste. Slowly add more until you get the taste you like the best.
Let me know if you make some. I’d love to know how you used yours.
