We all love tea because of the flavors and tastes they bring but another great part is the aroma. I begin my day with a pot of tea and the unique scents awaken my senses and sets the tone for the day. It’s really lovely. It got me to thinking, why not scented candles made from tea? Tea scented candles are a dime a dozen but most of them are filled with toxic perfumes and questionable ingredients. I want the real stuff. I want tea infused candles so I’m making them myself. Follow along if you’d like to learn how. I hope this brings you some inspiration and creativity for the day.

There are so many ways to customize this recipe so feel free to add your flavor to it. If you love having bits inside of your candles then I suggest to use loose leaf tea. The herbs could cause some smokiness but it’s never really been bothersome for me. I recommend to soak the tea first if you’re planning on sprinkling it on top the candle.

These candles also make lovely gifts. Because who doesn’t love candles? So keep this recipe in mind when you’re planning your gifts.

TEA INFUSED CANDLES DIRECTIONS
Ingredients
- 1 cup of soy wax
- 6 teabags (or 6 tablespoons of loose leaf)
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil (I used almond oil)
- 5 drops of essential oil (optional)
- A heat-safe container
- Candle wick
Directions
- In a double-boiler melt the wax and steep the tea for at least 15 minutes. Discard the tea and add the vegetable oil.
- Place the wick in the center of the heat-proof container and hold it in place with 2 clothes pins.
- Remove the pan from the burner and add the essential oil (optional).
- Allow it to cool completely.
- Trim the wick.
- Enjoy!

I really needed this! I have a question though. Is the smell as potent as when one uses essential oils?
Hi! I would definitely add essential oils if you’re looking for a stronger scent. Tea provides a subtler scent. I’m pretty sensitive to smells so I find the tea to be a better fit. 🙂
