There are 42 days left of summer. I’m patiently awaiting fall, so I’ve been keeping track. Around this time, I begin to notice the beauty of summer while knowing that the all the things about the season that annoy me will be waning out, which makes appreciation come much easier.

This re-discovered appreciation inspired me to share a nice iced tea blend. One that helps me get through and cope with the super excessive heat we’ve been having. It has chamomile, of course. I’m obsessed with chamomile and I use it a lot. A lot, a lot.

So, yes, chamomile and kiwi and basil. The three flavors pair perfectly with a light and mellow tone that will make you want to sit on a front porch with those famous summer breezes we always dream of. Admittedly, I don’t have a porch of any kind, but I will. Until then, I’ve got this chamomile infused kiwi basil concoction to get me through.

Chamomile is a mild sedative, which makes it especially helpful for calming down anxious thoughts and nervousness. I tend to have a natural attraction to these types of herbs, called nervines. It’s probably the reason chamomile has intuitively become a magnet in my life.

Kiwi is an interesting one for me. I took one of those online food sensitivity tests. As a self-admitted hypochondriac, I pretty much already know which foods make me feel good versus the ones that make me feel bad. I’m pretty in tune to the way my body feels. But why not take a test? It couldn’t hurt. So I did. And kiwi was one that surprised me. I have a sensitivity to it, and its one of my favorite fruits ever. I still eat it, but only in moderation.




Basil is rich in antioxidants, which is beneficial for overall wellness. Mostly I use it in this recipe for flavor, but it does add its benefits. Not to mention the vitamin A, C, K and so much more.

KIWI BASIL CALMING TEA BLEND RECIPE
Ingredients
- Steeped Chamomile Tea
- 1 kiwi, peeled and sliced
- 1 teaspoon of basil leaf, fresh and chopped
- Ice
Directions
- Steep chamomile tea and allow it to cool while preparing the kiwi and basil.
- Muddle the kiwi and basil in a shaker.
- Add ice and top off with chamomile tea.
- Pour over ice.
- Enjoy!
